TikTok Shop isn’t live in Australia yet, but the influencer and affiliate trends reshaping ecommerce in the US, Europe and Asia are a preview of what’s headed here. Brands that wait until launch day to build a robust creator and affiliate strategy will lose months getting started. Brands that build this now go into launch already selling.
Where TikTok Shop actually stands in Australia
TikTok has not confirmed a local rollout date. That doesn’t mean you can’t start preparing now. Roughly 20 Australian brands are already using TikTok Shop’s cross-border tools to sell into the US and UK, effectively test-driving the platform before it exists locally.
The global numbers show why this matters. According to a 2025 Momentum Works report, TikTok Shop hit USD 64.3B in global GMV in 2025 and is tracking toward USD 112B in 2026. Southeast Asia alone doubled year-on-year to USD 45.6B, 71% of global volume, with markets like Indonesia and Vietnam posting triple-digit growth.
The affiliate layer is where the growth is. In the US, affiliate-driven sales now account for 42% of platform GMV, the single largest sales channel on TikTok Shop. Over 15 million creators hold active affiliate links, average commission rates have climbed to 13%, and the top 0.5% of creators drive 38% of all affiliate GMV. This is a durable, repeatable sales channel with its own economics, not a short lived trend.
The appetite already exists in Australia
Australian consumers are already shopping socially. According to Pattern Australia’s 2026 Marketplace Consumer Report, 60% of Australians surveyed discover products via social media, and roughly half go on to purchase through those platforms. Influencer marketing spend hit AUD 520M in 2025, up 13% YoY, now one of the fastest-growing ad categories in the country And, shoppers are increasingly using TikTok and Instagram search bars as product-review engines, not just discovery feeds.
By 2030, social commerce in Australia is due to hit AUD 13B. Leaders in the field are getting ahead now, to ensure their brand is futureproofed for the exponential rise in market growth that is to come.
What brands should do before TikTok Shop arrives
The brands winning in mature TikTok Shop markets aren’t running one-off gifting campaigns. They’re building dedicated creator programs before the platform pressures them to. Ahead of an Australian launch, that means:
- Build a robust creator program now, not when launch is announced. Recruit and vet affiliates and ambassadors across TikTok, Instagram and beyond, so you have relationships, not a cold start, on day one.
- Get commission and tracking infrastructure in place. Trackable links, tiered commission structures and automated payouts take time to set up properly. Waiting until launch means weeks of lost sales velocity.
- Test cross-border now. Australian brands can already run TikTok Shop affiliate campaigns into the UK and US to learn what converts before the local market opens.
- Shift toward long-term partnerships. One-off transactional deals are giving way to ongoing collaborations that build trust and consistent content, the same shift driving results in Southeast Asia and the UK.
- Lean into unpolished, creator-authentic content. Overly polished, ad-like content is losing ground to unfiltered, human-first video, a trend Australian audiences are already responding to.
Build the engine before you need it
TikTok Shop will land in Australia eventually, and when it does, the brands with a live, running affiliate and influencer program will move immediately, while everyone else is still recruiting creators and negotiating commissions. Pattern Creators gives brands the infrastructure to get there first: recruit affiliates and creators, assign trackable links and codes, manage seeding, and automate payouts, all from one dashboard, ready to scale the moment TikTok Shop opens in Australia.
A brand leading the way is Converse Australia – Pattern’s first brand on the platform in the region. A longstanding client with Pattern Australia, they came to us keen to source high-quality UGC content at scale, in a way that felt authentic to their Gen Z and Gen Alpha customers. We built them a creator program that onboarded over 450 micro and nano creators across lifestyle and streetwear, gifting products and briefing them to show up on their own terms. The result was hundreds of posts across TikTok and Instagram, tens of thousands in affiliate sales and crucially, content the brand could repurpose across their own marketing mix, driving awareness and sales across their brands on Meta, TikTok, YouTube, email and website. It’s a model that works because it meets creators where they already are, and gives brands something a paid ad simply can’t: credibility.
The window to prepare is now. Talk to Pattern about building your creator program before the market moves without you.
